iSeeMammals is designed to collect data on observations of wildlife mammal species and/or your hiking paths in order to study the spatial and temporal patterns of mammal distribution and abundance. This document describes how iSeeMammals handles data and personal information that users provide to us, or that we collect from you through the use of our website or smartphone application.
Submitted Data and Information
Personal information (defined below) is voluntarily supplied by you when you register and submit data to iSeeMammals. By registering, you allow us to associate your data with a unique identifier, so that you can track data that you have submitted.
The location and date of observations of target wildlife species are the most important pieces of data that we collect. All details of observations and their associated location, date and time, and associated images are available to iSeeMammals researchers and its affiliated organizations.
By submitting data to iSeeMammals, you agree to give iSeeMammls permission to use, distribute, modify, publish, and display the data for research and educational purposes in the fashion detailed in this document. This permission is permanent and cannot be revoked.
Personal Information and Sensitive Locations
"Personal Information" means information such as Your first/middle initial or name, last name, e-mail address, street address, mailing address if different, town or city, state, zip code, telephone number, date of birth, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, and any other information that would allow someone to identify you or contact you.
If you are a registered user of iSeeMammals, we may occasionally send you an email to tell you about new features or solicit your feedback. If you submit unusual data, our team may e-mail you to request more details, but your email address and contact information will not be sold, distributed, or shared outside the iSeeMammals research team and its management collaborators. If you send us a request (for example via a help support email or via one of our feedback mechanisms), we reserve the right to publish your request and our response in order to help us clarify or respond to your request or to help us support other users.
iSeeMammals may release non-personally-identifying information in the aggregate, e.g., by publishing report on trends, maps, and images. To protect the privacy of sensitive locations and privately owned properties from which users may submit data, maps and images will only be publicly released with general location information, such as to the town or regional level. By submitting content to iSeeMammals, you grant iSeeMammals a world-wide, royalty-free, and non-exclusive license to reproduce, modify, adapt and publish the content solely for the purpose of displaying, distributing and promoting your images.
Users can view all of their personal data and submitted information but data from other users can only be viewed if released publicly by iSeeMammals.
iSeeMammals discloses potentially personally-identifying and non-personally-identifying information only to those of its researchers and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to analyze it or to provide services available at iSeeMammal’s websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others. iSeeMammals will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone.
Other than to its researchers and affiliated organizations, iSeeMammals discloses potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only when required to do so by law, or when iSeeMammals believes in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the property or rights of iSeeMammals, third parties, or the public at large.
